Welcome to Residence Life at Colorado Mountain College
COVID19 Update – June 18, 2020
The Colorado Mountain College Residence Life Department holds health & safety as our top priority as we make decisions for the upcoming semester. We are moving forward with plans to open with reduced occupancy in the residence hall for the Fall 2020 semester. As we work through the changing recommendations regarding COVID-19, we ask for your patience & flexibility. We will share more detailed housing information in the coming weeks.
Classes: Academic Affairs is working diligently to deliver classes in a variety of formats to meet health & safety goals. There are several programs that will deliver the coursework fully online and others that will require in person attendance. We encourage you to review your class schedule to determine if living on campus is the right choice for you based on your fall semester selections.
Live on Requirement Waived: In an effort to lower density and to allow students to find housing that is most conducive to their health during COVID-19, Residence Life is waiving the first-year live-on requirement for the 2020-21 academic year. If you are a first year student and you’d prefer to live off campus, please go into the Res Life Portal on Basecamp to fill out the Opt-Out form. If you have already completed a housing application and would like to switch to off-campus housing, please complete the Opt-Out form prior to July 15 and your $250 housing deposit will be refunded to you. After July 15, your deposit is forfeited. Once you complete the Opt-Out form & digitally sign, no further action is required. Because we are working off a wait-list, we are requesting that you complete this form ASAP to open your space to another student in the residence hall.
Singles vs Double occupancy / Room Assignments: We will open the building with 60% single rooms and 40% double rooms which decreases the capacity of the building by 30%. In years past, we have allowed residents to select their room location. In order to distribute residents evenly throughout the building, rooms will be designated as “single” or “double”; therefore you may not receive the exact room requested. If you completed your application (with deposit) prior to June 8, we are holding a space for you in the room type you selected on your application. Residents that have requested a single room on their application have been placed in a single room for an additional cost of $1050/semester. At this time, double and single rooms are no longer available, as we are currently full and utilizing a waitlist. Room assignments, including your roommate’s contact information, will be sent out later this summer to your CMC email address.
Dining Services: Grab-n-Go meals will be provided. We will return to service in the dining hall as soon as we are able. We are still waiting to hear what the café will look like for fall.
Move-In: Due to COVID-19 recommendations regarding social distancing, check-in will occur between August 17-19 (Spring Valley & Leadville) and Aug 17-20 (Steamboat). Information regarding your specific date & time will be sent to your CMC email address in the coming weeks. We encourage you to bring fewer possessions for an easier move-in experience. Move-in help may be limited to one person per student. Please plan accordingly. Masks will be required.
COVID-19 Policies: We are developing safety procedures to include social distancing requirements, masks, possibly testing upon arrival & throughout the semester, limited attendance at events, etc. A Supplemental Housing Agreement, outlining COVID-19 policies, will be sent to you in the coming weeks. You will be required to agree to abide by these policies to live in the residence hall next year. We need to work together for the safety of our entire campus community. Are you prepared to wear a mask anytime you are outside of your residence hall room? If no, the residence hall is not the right choice for you this year.
Housing Cancelation &/or Withdraw from CMC: To cancel your housing application, please email the Residence Life Department at your specific campus; your $250 deposit will be refunded if cancelation is received on or before July 15. After July 15, the $250 deposit is forfeited. If you have decided to no longer attend CMC, please contact the Campus Coordinator of Enrollment Services at your campus to inform them of your decision.
As much as we want campus life to return to normal, we know that we need to adjust to what college life means during a pandemic. Please continue to monitor your CMC email address for additional information, upcoming meetings & documents that will need to be completed. If state or local government &/or CMC Leadership prohibits the residence hall from opening, we will contact you immediately. Otherwise, we look forward to seeing you in August. We hope you are enjoying your summer!
